The life course theory hypothesizes that adult chronic disease shows the overall lifetime exposure to physical and social environments that are harmful to the individual (Nickitas, Middaugh & Aries, 2010). Obesity is a risk factor that continually exposes overweight or obese children to cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Fortunately, health promotion provides a platform that can be utilized to implement health intervention policies to mitigate the risks. The recommendation for preventing obesity is based on health promotion principles; therefore, nurses can use this framework to promote healthy habits that will reduce obesity and its risks (Lazarou & Kouta, 2010). Experts agree that the primary …show more content…
The evaluation for this project will consist of formative and summative steps. The nurse will use the formative evaluation to ensure that each child is able and motivated enough to adhere to their care plan; and progressing towards their goal. This will be done via a bi-weekly visit for each child with the nurse to determine if they are on-track or off-track. The nurse will assess and record the child’s height, weight, and BMI. Each child will also be assessed to determine if they are able to follow their care plan. The children that are on-track will be encouraged to continue with their efforts. The children that are off-track will be counseled on the challenges they face so that adjustments can be made if …show more content…
The nurse will evaluate the children and their parent to determine if they are following the interventional plan. Adjustments will be made for any child that may be experiencing challenges. At the final visit, the nurse will compute the weight loss in the final period. The nurse will prepare questionnaires to evaluate each child’s overall adherence to the intervention plan. When the data gathering process is complete, the nurse will analyze the data. The height, weight, BMI and weight loss information will be compiled to determine the average weight loss per week. The nurse will also compute a weekly adherence factor based on the questionnaire. Using the chi square statistical analysis, the nurse will compare the expected outcome to the actual outcome to determine if there is a significant statistical difference that makes the expected outcome unrealistic. This information will be used to determine if the intervention plan and outcome is appropriate for each child. Otherwise, the nurse will either adjust to plan or the expected outcome to make it more realistic for each
