Obesity in rural areas are just as much as important as obesity in urban areas. One study would research obesity among rural adults and urban adults. Trivedi founded that obesity was higher in rural than in urban residents. Trivedi also found that more rural adults than urban adults reported no physical activity. Not many rural adults met or exceeded physical activity recommendations. The study also found that rural adults had low intake of fiber and fruits but had a high intake of sweetened drinks. According to Trivedi, the odds of being obese among rural adults were 1.19 times higher than that among urban adults. The results were obtained by using certain methods. The data was obtained from the 1999-2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey and only 14,039 participants who were 20 years or older. One method used is physical activity recommendations. The physical activity recommendations were used to define participants’ physical activity levels like no leisure time, less, meeting and exceeding the recommended levels. Another method is Sedentary behaviors which is measured by hours siting and watching tv or videos or using the computers not including at your workplace. The study also sued 24 hour dietary recall. The average American man is now during 142 fewer calories each day than he did in the 1960s. Another factor that drive obesity is what people do in their leisure time. Only 5% of adults actually meet the national guidelines for leisure time exercise. The study also found that the average American spends 55% of his waking hours sitting down. Sugar-sweetened sodas also had huge contribution to obesity. Sleep is another factor that plays a part in obesity. Sleeping less than six hours a day or sleeping more than eight hours a day can help an individual to gain weight. Alcohol can also be a driving factor to obesity.
