Should Sports Be Required In Schools

There are a variety of schools, sports, and students throughout the United States. A large amount of children attend school everyday. Many students participate in school activities, and many do not. Some students put their best effort into their work, and some do not. Sports, obesity, social media, and grades can all relate to students and school. Many students are influenced by sports everyday. Twenty-one million students, between the age of six and seventeen, participate in a team sport, and five million are engaging, but the numbers are declining. Students are most active before their teen years. Children ages six to twelve who played sports in 2008 fell near forty-five percent, and in 2013 the number decreased to forty percent. Children who are physically active, and participate in sports continue to remain healthy: "Regular physical activity benefits youth in many ways, including helping build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints; helping control weight and reduce …show more content…
It is important to try throughout high school: "Grades not only determine whether students will receive a diploma but on the other end of the spectrum, which schools and scholarships students are eligible to attend or receive" (Kelly, Melissa). Students should not overwhelm themselves in challenging courses, but they should be prepared to be challenged. (Pine, Bradford). High school students are challenged, so they have put effort into their work. Being challenged will develop work ethic and growth in an individual. Receiving good grades in challenging courses is what colleges value the most (Hawkins, David). Parents pay for education, but often times do not get anything in return. Many parents put in extra work, so they can see their child, or children, excel. Morals and education come first, and sports come second.
