The Department of Public Health backs up that statement by saying, “As nutrient-poor, high-calorie foods have become cheaper and more available, nutritious foods have become relatively more expensive.” What we need to do is to put more affordable nutritious food into our food stores and convenience stores. Instead of having chips, candy and fattening snacks in our schools and stores, we need to offer fruits and vegetables. Also, make the prices of the healthy snacks just as affordable as the chips. The goal of this is to give the people the option to buy the healthier food. A lot of low-income neighborhoods can't afford to spend a ton of money on food. The people of this community are creatures of habit they will continue to habitually eat poorly and not exercise until there is a concerted effort to break habits and ensure access to affordable options. While many in the United States claim that obesity isn’t really a problem, the hard facts are that it really is a serious epidemic. America has, in the last 50 or so years, skyrocketed in its total body mass index, and is one of the heaviest countries in the world. This is due largely to the numerous fast food restaurants in America, and the large portion sizes served in restaurants, and the generally high prices of all healthy foods in supermarkets. Countless Americans are not taking into account that obesity has become a serious health threat that people can prevent, but it's as if people aren't trying. When there is a lot of food everywhere and the quick and easy source of technology, people will be distracted from dietary issues such as…
