Obesity In America Essay

America is filled with people who are overweight, or also know as, obese. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat. Not only is it adults but also children and teens. In the past 30 years childhood obesity has more than doubled. For teens though it has quadrupled. I feel like there are different reasons for why the amount of obese people have went up. America is the country full with low income people. The lower the income the less people want to spend and here in America healthy food is not cheap. You can go to a fast food restaurant and order a sandwhich for just one dollar or you could go to a store and get healthier food that will consume most of your money. That fifty cent difference might not seem like much but to some families it is. If the cost of healthier food and drinks would decrease then I think the obesity rate would also decrease. It would also decrease if other states required gym and physical ed classes. The only state that does is Illinois. When coming obese there are a lot of health problems that come along with it. Children and teens who are obese are at greater risk for bone and joint problems, sleep apnea, and social psychological problems such as stigmatization and poor self-esteem. When children are obese and they turn into adults they will also be obese. This will increase long term health effects. Obese children are more at risk for adult health issues like heart disease, diabetes, stroke, several cancers, etc. One study showed that children who became obese as early as age two were more likely to be obese as adults. It is better for children to become healthier at a younger age instead of as an adult. If they start eating healthier and exercising regularly then their body will become
