Community Olde Towne East: A Major Health Problem

1 Obesity is one of the major health problems in the United States today. Many adults found themselves in a situation where they become overwhelmed with the stress of daily life as a result, they may become neglect of their health are unable to take care of themselves. There are many factors that contributes to the rise of obesity in the United States such as, social economic, life style and education. Obesity contributes to many of other life threatening diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease and high cholesterol which are some of the health problem that was identified in the windshield survey. According to the article, Treatment Strategies for Overweight and obesity “In the United States, 66% of adults are either overweight or obese” Lora, E., et al (2011, p. 368). The community is divided where the northern side have more access to supermarket stores, restaurant and health care and more while on the southern side of the community the supermarket are almost not in existence there is only one save a lot store. The residents in the community are deprived from essential food items Such as fresh fruits and vegetables that could help them to improve the quality of their life. Although the social economic are different the obesity problem are the same. The population that is at the greatest risk are the adult and elderly. According to the city of Columbus data, 31.6% of Franklin County resident are overweight and 34.2% of Ohioan are overweight.
