Obesity is a condition in which a person has an abnormally high and unhealthy proportion of body fat. It’s commonly measured using a BMI scale. Obesity is becoming a national threat to the residences of planet earth as it is a clandestine force that strikes even in broad daylight. Obesity has become the number one national health problem in America, and China isn 't that far behind. It has been classified as a disease and for good reasons. It has brought people a copious amount of health complications. Some complications include: diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, breast cancer and birth complications. Kimberly is a 13 year old girl who is dealing with obesity. Her liver is not performing as well as it used to, her body cannot turn the sugar into energy efficiently and she is developing a very high blood pressure. An adult is more likely to develop symptoms like Kimberly but since she is obese, her body is aging more rapidly than it should at the age of 13. Because obesity is becoming more of a pandemic to the younger generation, doctors estimated that children with obesity may have a much shorter life expectancy than their parents. Obese kids are at a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes and diabetes. Since plaque is being built up in the arteries, it prevents the oxygen rich blood from flowing smoothly through the body causing such accidents to happen. Alice stated in her periodical that "Kids aren 't simply developing the diseases of adults, physically they are becoming one. By the time they are barely 10 years old, some obese children are pushed into puberty by bodies that are ready to reproduce even if they are not remotely ready to be sexually active." (Parks page 42) Besides obesity increasing a kids risk of cancer, it also ages the body rapidly even when they are not of the age to reach that step. Obesity ages the cells and if the cells of an obese child were to be compared to an adult, they would like very alike.
