In the United States today, obesity has become an enormous problem in many children. Each year the number of young individuals overweight has increased dramatically. There are many effects of obesity like health issues, depression, eating disorders and death. Fast-food corporations even seem to be encouraging children to consume regular amounts of unhealthy foods by giving away toys with a purchase of a kids’ meal. Television, computers and video games, which are now considered to be a necessity to many kids, have begun to cloud the importance of exercise. Prevention can be achieved by encouraging children to follow a balanced diet and motivate them into participating in physical activities where it can discontinue this horrible crisis.
Not every child is considered obese if they have a body mass index greater or equal to their 95th percentile of their age; therefore parents should be aware of the deadly consequences of medical issues in obesity. There are many causes for individuals at the above percentage because of poor nutrition and a lack of exercise. Research shows that almost one-third of U.S. children between the ages four and nineteen eat fast food every day; resulting in a weight gain. In the article, What is Healthy Eating?
