They discuss the reasoning behind the epidemic and the reason why it continues through each generation. American teenagers eat many different types of unhealthy food. Fried foods such as KFC, McDonalds and Taco Bell are quite popular dining choices. Sugar –filled candy bars, chips and sodas are quick options at schools with vending machines. Many teenagers enjoy going to fast food places because of the fatty, greasy food. However, American teens tend to seek out foods that can be easily consumed during car trips to work, school or events. The increase in a teenagers busy lifestyles and the reduced time at home makes a large contribution to the selection of fatty, sugar filled foods that they may choose whenever hunger strikes. Eventually, their brains became so over stimulated that they wanted more fast food to feel normal. When a rat over stimulates its brain with highly fatty food, the systems adapted by decreasing activity levels. Now there is a requirement of constant stimulation of the fast food to avoid feeling negativity in the brain. In another study, researchers fed a rat a food high in saturated fat and sugar that lowered the rat’s ability to respond to a hormone that helps regulate eating by altering how full they feel. These common factors may explain obesity and the validity it has with a drug addiction
