“If you have four years to complete your college education, do it,” said Bo Jackson, a prominent professional baseball and football player in the 1980s and 1990s (Bo Jackson Quote). He was the first of his family to be given the opportunity to go to college, and he took it. Like Bo, I will seize my opportunity to attend college at either the Ohio State University, or the University of Toledo. For me, the hardest part is not the academics, but deciding which of the two to attend. Among everything Tuition, location and living conditions, and my future major in engineering all impacted my decision the most.…

During my one visit to Appalachian State, I was able to to witness the overall beauty of the campus, as well as the ubiquitous sense of community. Moreover, the immense focus towards conservation stood out to me, as I have always been extremely passionate about preserving the environment. Additionally, I have only heard immensely positive feedback about the university, especially in regards to the forensic science program, which I intend to earn a degree from. Overall, the most valuable aspects of college to me are that they provide a strong sense of community, and actively strive towards conservation and professionalism, so I believe Appalachian State is the best school for me in these…

Whether it was taking time out of my day to attend the first general body meeting of debate team or filling out the application for National Society of Collegiate Scholars, I began my success by putting my foot out into the unknown without fully expecting what I was going to get out of it. Having the adventurous mind to try out new things has opened my mind greatly to leadership opportunities, service, scholarship, and social justice. Topics and initiatives that I would have never thought to be conversing about or partaking in are now major parts of my everyday life. Through NSCS and every other organization or club I’m a part of, I have become a more active, accommodating, and out spoken person. To a first generation college student, obtaining success in college can often seem like a daunting task and many might shrivel in fear of the expectations.…

Tulane is known for its amazing medical program and the vibrant New Orleans city life that surrounds the campus – these attributes alone made me fall in love with Tulane. A couple of weeks ago, when I had a chance to visit the campus, I not only fell in love with what I read and heard, but what the University is about – making me feel welcomed and apart of a community . While on campus I walked around with a law student, Anjane, who also attended Tulane for undergrad. She gave me the “real” on campus life, and what to expect if I attended Tulane. She kept on reiterating how well I would fit in, and how much there was to do.…
