Thank you for contacting me about Obamacare. I appreciate having the opportunity to respond. As you may know, the United States Supreme Court upheld Obamacare subsidies nationwide in June of 2015. In a 6-3 decision, the court held that federal subsidies are valid even in states that did not set up their own state exchanges for Obamacare. The case centered on language in the original 900 page Affordable Car Act, which limited federal subsidies to those individuals who bought insurance through exchanges “established by the state”. Chief Justice Roberts writing the majority opinion stated that the language was “ambiguous” and it was the duty of the court to correct “the ambiguity according to what they thought the drafters meant."
