The Reagan regime, overall, has proved to be difficult for Obama and has placed many constraints throughout his two terms. For example, in light of the Sandy Hook shootings in Newtown Connecticut, President Obama pushed for legislation that would expand background checks on those who purchased guns. However, after the bill failed in the Senate, Obama has been helpless on his own gun policy and has maintained a more conservative stance on gun policy, refusing to push further for more liberal gun policies. Obama has also taken more moderate to conservative stances on surprising issues such as drugs. In 2004, Obama supported to end the war on drugs and throughout his campaign advocated to decriminalize marijuana. However, during his presidency, Obama has taken even more of a conservative stance on drugs than did his predecessor, George W. Bush.
