The documentary, Two American Families, is about two American families (one white and one black) from Milwaukee, the Neumann and the Stanley family, who shared how they lived their lives for two decades. This documentary showed how difficult it was for these families to achieve the American dream, as they were affected by the varying degrees of poverty, unemployment, and poor economy. Watching the documentary, Two American Families, was quite emotional for me. I was able to put myself on these families’ shoes. The documentary showed an example of how a lot of ordinary American families live and face the daily struggles of life.…

The main topics of chapters one through 4 in the book Democrats, Republicans and the Politics of Women are that gender plays a large part in politics and how people make partisan decisions. The chapters also cover how the two political parties differ in their stances on different gender issues. I really liked Sanbonmatsu’s differentiation between gender equality and role change. I found this to be an interesting separation that helped me understand and better categorize my already existing knowledge of how gender politics and opinions about gender equality worked. I really enjoyed most of the findings of the first four chapters…

Reading a good book has always been a great way to escape from the real world and jump into a fictional world. From the article “Study: Reading a Novel Changes Your Brain” by Julia Ryan, it seems that reading can make lifelong changes to your brain. Emory University did a study with fMRIs on 21 students, to see how the reading would affect their brains. As it turns out, the left temporal cortex of the brain (receptivity and language) is heightened by reading! Therefore, when you hear the word “running”, you may think of yourself as if you were actually running.…

Conclusion: The process of writing reflective accounts is a vital tool by which student paramedics can question, make sense of and clarify experiences to develop knowledge and improve performance as clinicians (Turner 2015). Whilst reflecting on this patient care episode I have learned about pulmonary oedema secondary to left ventricular failure and how these conditions afflict the patient. I have also learned how personal autonomy in practice when exercised safely, with justification and for better patient care can shape individual practice, that is to say there is no “one size fits all” protocol for patient care.…
