My father is my teacher, and a good one. A good teacher of what not to do. Most fathers teach their sons how to be a man, how to provide for his family, and how to do the little things such as hunting, fishing, and fixing things etc., but my father never taught me these things. He was too busy chasing women and doing drugs.
My father has been in and out of prison and treatment my whole life. The two most recent times was when he went back to prison my freshman and sophomore years. I remember sitting in shop class freshman year and my mom texting me the news, and I was not shocked, he had just got out of treatment that summer. He had a way of getting out and then going right back in.

He won’t be out until my junior year of college. I have never had a father when it came to sports. He’s never seen me play varsity football or wrestle in high school, but even though my father never was present to teach me all of the life lessons, and how to be a man, and how to provide for my family, he still did.
I wouldn’t have such a positive attitude and outlook about my situation if it wasn’t for my mom and uncle. My mom went through it all with me, and it brought us closer. She has taught me that it is way too much work to hate, and it is not worth my time. My uncle has been there for us financially. When my mom and I struggle he is always there for us, helping me pay for camps and gear for sports. He is also my father figure. He is the one I look to when it comes to “men things”. I could not be more thankful for these two in my life. Without them, I would not be where I am today.
I have taken every step towards succeeding in high school just to prove that the apple does fall far from the tree. I am nothing like my father. I am graduating high school, and going to get a college degree, and starting a family to be the best father I can
