Andersonville also was known, as Camp Sumter is one of the national historic sites in Georgia that was constructed to act as a memorial to all the American prisoners captured during the civil war. According to the historical research, the building of the site began some months before the US civil war ended in the year 1864. The purpose of this structure was mainly to hold the prisoners who would be captured by the Confederate soldiers (Cangemi, Joseph, and Cash, 26). As the number of the prisoners in Richmond were continuously increasing, the federal officials realized that they needed to relocate the prisoners to a more secure place with better food provisions. Thus, they chose Andersonville in Georgia as their ideal site for the military prison construction Concerning the structure, the campsite was bounded by the chopped pine of logs that had different heights that varied from 15 feet to 17 feet.…

Suddenly, the small town feel is gone, new people have moved in, and the appreciation for the culture that once existed there has been depleted by everyone ’s need to economically benefit from the environment’s existing natural resources.…

When one thinks of Detroit or Michigan in general, they automatically think of the musicians and sports teams that came from there; Madonna, Eminem, Kid Rock, The Tigers, The Lions, and The Red Wings. One assumes when someone talks about Detroit that they live there and give the person the utmost respect despite only visiting or living outside of the city. What caused Detroit's descent from a wealthy, vital city into one where "ruins" are common and the city is bankrupt? The lack of care and concern from the people who are in the charge of the city and its people. Despite all of these attractions, the city is still in ruins and is still in major debt.…

I currently reside in Markham, the city is a part of York Region and is located just north of Toronto. I moved there at the end of eighth grade, and since then it has been my hometown. Markham is a boring place to be, rarely does anything eventful ever happens, and there is really nothing to do, there is a mall, a theatre and occasionally there’s a festival, which is pretty much it. This is aided by the fact that crime is low in the city, there are few murders and little robberies, with most notable crimes being the occasional weed deal here and there. Markham is also a quiet place, mainly thanks to a small population, the minimal traffic and lack of pedestrians keeps noise to a minimum.…

Vancouver Destination Development Vancouver’s Cycle of Destination Evolution Vancouver has passed through several of Butler's (1980) tourist area cycles. The trappers and sailors of the nineteenth century could perhaps be characterized as early business travelers, while the recreational hunting and fishing trade of the early 20th century attracted tourists typical of Butler's exploration stage - individuals making their own arrangements. During this period, guest expectations would have been characteristic of the age. There would be no expectations of en suite bathrooms in an era when most private homes still had toilet facilities in the back yard. The tourists visiting the region in those days were in search of the relaxation and health benefits afforded by a beautiful natural environment, and an expectation of returning to work refreshed and full of new energy (Vancouver Heritage…

The traditional approach to development of the predominantly rural and small town communities surrounding public lands has been the promotion of commodity-based development rooted in economic base theory (Harris et al., 2003). According to this model, external demand for commercially valuable commodities produced locally drives economic growth. In the nonmetropolitan, historically, the export-based economies have been based on extractive and manufacturing industries (Rudzitis and Johnson, 2000). The base industry attracts other firms that provide services to the industry and its employees, contributing to economic development.…
