Oak Wilt Invasive Species Invasive Species and Native Species can have their similarities but also have their differences. Just by their name it’s a difference. Besides their name they don’t have much in common. An example of invasive species is Oak Wilt. Oak Wilt is caused by exotic fungus also referred as Ceratocystis Fagacearum. Oak Wilt goes onto leaves which causes them to turn a brownish color instead of their original green color. A native species is Panicgrass also known as Panicum. Panicum helps give food to the wildlife unlike the invasive species. That’s some differences they have. Similarities are that they both live in the wildlife. Oak Wilt is an invasive species. It is made by exotic fungus also known as Ceratocystis Fagacearum. It grows on leaves which makes them turn a brownish color instead of their original color they were born with. It comes from sap beetles. Sap beetles carry the fungus that causes the Oak Wilt. The results come from a heavy storm the previous day or tree pruning. If that happens then the tree gets infected which causes Oak Wilt. The tree where Oak Wilt effects the most is the Red Oak tree. Their leaves turn bronze. Oak Wilt was found to be in 21 states and most damage occurs in the Midwest states. Each year 11 percent increases of Oak Wilt. As for a cure to get rid of Oak Wilt, there is no exact cure to get rid of this invasive species. The only way to prevent this invasive species is to keep all trees healthy with prevention. It is easier to get rid of it through detecting it earlier than later when it is harder to get off. Oak Wilt will happen more often in the Fall since it’s the time for the leaves to shed.
