Oak Ridge City School System Case Study

In an educational environment, any strategic plan that aims to improve a school system is well founded in data analysis and evaluation. The Oak Ridge City School System is developing a plan that could improve the core task of teaching and learning across the district for the entire student population. Based on statistical data calculated for a variety of variables, an initial analysis of the eight schools in the system can be developed in order to develop the strategic plan for improvement moving forward. Currently, there are eight schools in the Oak Ridge City School system. The four schools of Pine Valley, Linden, Elm Grove, and Cedar Hill can be identified as successful because each has a high student attendance (≥89%), above average teacher morale (≥6.0), and test scores that are higher than the remaining four schools (≥45). As an educational leader it is critical to understand that all students have the opportunity to learn, and there is a tremendous growth opportunity due to the descriptive nature at the school. While the achievement scores show underperformance, an administrator with integrity could offer the support to grow a young staff with high morale. Thus, the climate at the school is primed for an increase in capacity and through a strategic plan and development of the teacher and community, the school could be developed to grow learning of students. Reflection – As a superintendent or any leader making decisions, there is a large amount of data and variables that must be analyzed and connected to support the core task. Particularly in the Oak Ridge City School System, a small amount of descriptive data can lead to large inferences. This means that when multiple data points are involved, even a small amount of data to analyze can be used to determine
