When I came to OU, I had little sense of belonging. While I may have loved my Camp Crimson family and was a member of the President’s Leadership Class, I felt alone more often than I felt supported or comforted, because I didn’t fit in with many of my peers. I come from a different background than many students here at OU—I grew up in poverty, my family is riddled with addiction, and I am a first generation student. These circumstances set me apart and often times our differences lead to me being excluded from various social groups. It wasn't until my building’s safewalk, Muneeb Ata, reached out to me that I even began to consider my residence hall as a social group. The building was having a halloween party, and I showed up for the last thirty minutes of it. I didn't know anyone and only talked to a handful of people, but that day changed my experience at university. Because of my attendance that night, I gained a group of people who accepted me, supported me, and guided me through some very hard times I’ve gone through in the last 6 months. I want to be someone else’s Muneeb. I know there are other students who are like who I used to be - lacking a community or a support system - and I want to be there for them. …show more content…
For example, throughout high school, I was a dedicated member of Student Council, and head to create events to attract students and develop pride and community within our school district. I lead four homecoming and spirit weeks and two Halloween Carnivals. While I haven’t had many opportunities to program and conduct events in college, I am currently working with Maureen, my RA, and Muneeb to program the end of the year event for the residents of David L Boren

My residential community has had a great impact on me. The community provides an ideal atmosphere to meet a variety of people. Not only does the residential community promote diversity and inclusion, but it has also granted me the unique opportunity of leading in a college atmosphere. After arriving at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, I started spending most of my time in the lobby because my room did not have air conditioning. While in the lobby, I met a racially and geographically diverse group of people.…

As an executive board member of my school’s Key Club, I work very closely with my other board members to create several volunteer opportunities, develop deep connections with my local community, and find ways to get my school more involved with community service. True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…

Ever since I can recall, I have had a fervent passion for government and politics. Unlike kids my age, I would always pick up a newspaper to keep up on current events, instead of watching SpongeBob or playing video games. I grew up with a craving to help people and solve America’s congressional dysfunction. Many of my friends and teacher started to call me “Mr. President,” and thus after being chosen as most likely to become President in middle and high school, my motivation to study government and make a lasting impact on the political history of America grew stronger.…
