Studies relating to the concept of blue eyes took place at the University of Copenhagen by a scientist named Hans Eiberg. He conducted a study and stated that "A genetic mutation affecting the OCA2 gene in our chromosomes resulted in the creation of a 'switch,' which literally 'turned off' the ability to produce brown eyes,” (Eiberg). The OCA2 gene works together with melanin — the “thing” that gives our hair, eyes, and skin colour. As we previously learned, blue-eyed people only have brown pigmentation in the inner layer of their eye and scattered wavelengths travel throughout the outer and middle layer. This is because the amount of melanin has been reduced in the two frontal layers, therefore creating a lighter iris colour. It is common
