The APRN must also obtain education regarding the Ohio Automated Rx Reporting System (OARRS). The goal of this prescription tracking system is to prevent abuse and diversion of schedule II controlled substances. Education regarding OARRS allows the APRN to consider obtaining and reviewing OARRS reports for any patients receiving narcotics. The APRN should obtain an OARRS report on a patient when red flags occur, such as forging or altering a prescription; known history of chemical abuse or dependency; appearing impaired at an office visit; or frequent loss of prescription or drugs.
Prior to obtaining a certificate to prescribe, the APRN must complete five hundred hours of a clinical externship under the direct supervision of a professional
