O3 On Our Own is a non-profit organization located in NDG and was founded in 2005. O3 was created by the Elizabeth House Foundation. After spending time at the Elizabeth House, families had trouble maintaining their new life. O3 was created as an independent living space in order to assist these families by giving them a space to live in, providing them with useful skills for the workforce and offering a more permanent solution than the Elizabeth House. O3 is no longer a part of the Elizabeth House Foundation, but has become an independent charity. Presently, as it has continued with its past work, the foundation is helping 24 different families. This charity helps give these young adults the skills they need to be great parents, to take part in the workforce and become independent. The children are also benefitting through many programs provided to them. With the help their parents are getting, their lives are in turn will be ameliorated. Young families are usually looked down upon by society, but this charity does not do that. Instead this charity helps these families create a future for themselves and for generations to come.
Sarah: I wanted to choose this charity because I believe that second chances are always deserved. Low-income families can have an extremely tough time battling harsh circumstances in life. Sometimes they need somewhere to help them take control of themselves, their loved ones and their lives. These victims should be entitled to a restored and improved lifestyle where they can grow to feel stronger emotionally and mentally. The first one is a deep sense of social justice which compels to action. This organization is deeply involved in helping the low-income community. This in turn leads to the coordination of programs and activities to make a difference in the families’ lives forever. The second goal is the building of community as a Christian value. This is because O3 provides a warm and welcoming environment where everyone can feel accepted and can relate to one another. They have programs where everyone can be involved causing multiple families to mesh together in order to become one large family. The next value is the development of respect for oneself and for others. At O3, inclusion is a key facet to a successful integration. This charity allows the young women and men to learn, grow and begin to respect themselves, while others act in the same way. On Our Own allows young parents to open up about their difficult pasts, and in turn receive support from others who have faced a similar battle. This organization also touches upon a genuine respect for intellectual values. O3 tries to teach the residents valuable life lessons, educate them with the necessary skills to become and continue to be good single parents as well as how to be independent. By educating these single parents on the intellectual aspects of living a self-supported life, O3 supplies them with a long term solution to their situation that can be
