O Connor: A Narrative Fiction

It's dark and cold tonight. All I can see is the full moon softly glowing above me and the silhouettes of the trees I run past. The cold wind whips my long, golden brown hair against my face. As I keep running I suddenly feel the earth turn to hard pavement under my feet. I come to an abrupt stop in the middle of the road. I hear an engine and look up just in time to leap out of the way of the blue jeep hurdling down the road. I roll over on the pavement and feel a sharp pain in my side. The jeep skids to a stop and a boy, who looks not much older than me, jumps out of the car. He has black hair that sticks up from his head. He is wearing a gray short sleeved t-shirt and jeans. I can't see his other features because it is so dark out, …show more content…

From where we are it is about a thirty minute drive to the hospital. Ha! And I thought I could walk that far! We spend the rest of the drive singing along to the songs on the radio or talking about who we are. We pull into a spot right at the door to the hospital. Connor holds the door open for me as I walk in.
"Thanks." I say. I walk up to the counter and ask the lady sitting there if I can talk to Doctor Max Lampton. The lady says he is in the room across the hall and that I should wait until he comes out. Max and I have history that goes way back. We used to live up in Northern California. He would always come to our house and help my mom. She was a single parent raising both me and my sister, Rosie. To be honest, I really thought he would propose to her or something, but then my mom got sick. Not like a cold sick, more like cancer sick. The doctors told her she still had some time, like four or five years since the cancer had just started. My mom died when my sister and I were eleven, but not from the cancer. My mom was murdered by some men who also tried to kill Rosie and me. Anyway, after that Max moved here, which is a small town near Lake Arrowhead in Southern California. It is called Rachdale City. When the natives lived here it was called City of Angels because the natives claimed to be visited by angels. That's really just a myth though. Max moved here and eventually I followed. Max seems much older than he really is because

Rosie, my sister, and I homeschooled each other up until a few months ago. That's ok though. I'm sure I can deal with high school. Before either of us could say anything more, the boy from the chair in the other room stumbles out into the hallway. He looks like he needs a lot more sleep.
"Brian, I thought you were awake already. Hurry up! We have school today." Alex says.
"I know, I know." Brian says stumbling past us and down the stairs.
"Um. Yeah. That's Brian. He's been, uh, living with me since his dad, well, since his dad died. He's kinda like my brother." Alex looks at me a little uncomfortably as he rubs the back of his neck. Then as if none of that just happened Alex says, "I guess you could come to school with me. I would have to enroll you."
"Ok. I can take care of enrollment. I have some experience." I say smiling at the thought of when Rosie and I enrolled in middle school. That was an interesting experience. Alex and I head down the stairs and turn left into the kitchen.

Despite his sudden awe at her presence, Sophie's reluctant demeanor wasn't lost on Kevin. It was discouraging, but he gave a deep breath (one he realized, too late, was probably audible) and waited as she came closer, trying not to stare too blatantly at her shapely legs as they made her skirt swish like a curtain hiding restless performers backstage. He unbuttoned the top button of his plaid flannel shirt and another breath escaped. As she explained her timid goal for the sessions, it did nothing for Kevin's discouragement, and there was even a bit of resentment in there, too. She was clearly just trying to coast by, and had no intention of paying him the attention he was giving her.…

The Stalker in Ontonagon It was a cool summer day in Ontonagon Michigan. As I was sitting on the hood of the silver truck, watching my little cousins play in the grass, little trickles of rain ran down my chestnut brown hair. All of my little cousins were playing “Ghost In the Graveyard” in the soggy grass. After twenty minutes or so all the kids were lying in the soggy grass, exhausted. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted a man.…

The sounds, the smell, the sights, and the eerie and melancholy, but somehow always beautiful sound of jazz music assaulted the man's eardrums, as usual, as the dusk began to darkness, and the final rays of the sun lit up the sky in an incandescent, orange glow, which perfectly match the scene. New Orleans was a city, Michael O'Loughlin was still to become accustom to, and that showed in the way his bright green eyes shifted from side to side, his attention caught by the bright dolls and trinkets in the market stalls, and owners of those stalls and small shops who attempted to entice him closer with the promise of magic, in their lyrical, musical voices; the timbre of the native's, and the creole obviously distinguishable from the tourists…

HLTH 113 – Patient Assessment Paper Instructions Last week I was walking towards the park minding on my own business while taking my usual walk.
