The first reason is the main character stays the same. In the movie Ulysses fulfills the role of Odysseus. Odysseus and Ulysses are similar in many ways, one of the ways that sticks out the most is their pride. Ulysses refuses to make change for anything he does not believe in. In the movie he refuses to use any hair product other than Dapper Dan. This shows how much pride he takes in his hair and appearance. By keeping Odysseus character true and making Ulysses a prideful man which is one of the main traits odysseus possesses and so it is important they kept this trait alive.
Another way Odysseus character remains the same is the journey him and Ulysses are both on a journey. They both are very far away from home and face many hardships and obstacles on their adventure back. On of the obstacles Ulysses faces is when him and his men sleep in a barn but then get reported to the police. When the police show up they set the barn on fire but Ulysses and his men still manage to overcome this obstacle. The epic poem “The Odyssey” occurred in Greece and the movie “O brother Where Art Thou” occurred in a southern setting. The southern setting is more entertaining because the events that happen are more exciting and realistic than the events that would happen in Ancient Greek Mythology. The southern setting also has a lot more action versus the Ancient Greece such as when the police came and set the barn on fire.
