Nymphs: A Fictional Narrative

W.B. Yeats once said, “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” Walking up the stairs, through the window I could see an orb of light in the forest start to shine, and a wood nymph revealed itself. “The forest has sent me to you today, let’s heal the rabbit and I’ll be on my way”. Immediately I ran down the stairs of my house ready for an adventure. Grabbing the injured rabbit I bolted toward the light that had started to flicker. Reaching the edge of the yard, the nymph started walking into the neighbor's yard then disappeared. Where had it gone? “Look,” it told me “really look”. Focusing intently on the space in front of me, I could see ripples and the harder I stared, the faster this reality faded into a new one. …show more content…
Abruptly the nymph stopped causing me to bump into it. On our path was a smirking sprite, and with that look alone, I knew we were in trouble. He said, “I hear you’re trying to get to the magic Alder tree, you musn’t have thought you could freely pass my land and live, did you?”. The nymph turned to me, and whispered, “Normally I wouldn’t do this, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Oh swift-footed Hermes, guide of words and meaning, who clears the way for travelers, may you be with us in our time of need”. Miraculously the sprite froze and while he was immobile, we hurried away to the last

I was over ecstatic when Fernando, (also known as Fernie) my best guy friend asked me to go on a walking adventure with him in our hometown of Kelseyville, California. We started off the day by walking in the forest alongside of Kelsey Creek. This forest has a really big meaning to Fernie and I, because we both love nature in every aspect and these walking adventures are not uncommon to us. Starting on the path we both got lost in our own thoughts, I got distracted by looking above me at the the canopy the tree branches created. My eyes followed the patterns the sunlight was creating as it broke through the leaves and cascaded onto the uneven forest floor.…

Reflecting on the college application process, I noticed that the college essays were stressed very highly, but all the prompts ask for the same thing. Whether they are asking for an eventful moment, your passion, a hobby, or a chosen outsourced prompt, many students seem to convey the same messages in their essays. To get around this, one must ask a more inconspicuous prompt where the student’s character shows through their unique ideas. A prompt that is universal, conveys a meaning, and is always answered uniquely must ask for a narrative: Write a creative story. Walking through the woods one night, Agatha Johansson could not wait to arrive at her friend’s house.…

Williams draws upon and transforms the central ideas established in the poems of both Marlowe and Raleigh by including the sense of nature in his poem and referring back to statements made in previous poems. For example in stanza one, line four " What can the small violets tell us that grow on furry stems in the long grass among lance-shaped leaves?" (Raleigh was right, Williams) refers to nature agreeing with Raleigh 's poem "The Nymph 's Reply to the Shepherd" about nature not always being an answer. Marlowe includes alliterations, and rhyme schemes as a part of his structure that help develop a central idea in his poem, although rather than using alliteration Williams will repeat words such as country, and long ago.…

The ray of light from the flashlight casts a luminescent glow on the ground, allowing us to keep a watchful eye on where we are stepping. As we walk, I feel the crunch of breaking thin ice, and the stickiness of the mud under my feet. I smell the crisp, clean aroma of the morning air. We weave our way through the woods trying to avoid puddles of unfrozen water, and logs that are in the way of the trails we have made. Finally, I spot the…

Within the poem imagery is used to portray powerful feelings not of love but a strong feeling about love. In the Second stanza the line is used to convey the passage of time.…
