It seems like Holden is recollecting way more than a real human being would be able to recollect. He is telling us every single possible detail about where he is and what he is experiencing. I have also found it hard to connect to this portion of the book as he his dunk for a good bit of it. The part I was able to connect with the book is Phoebe as she acts similar to my younger brother.…

In her realist novel, Ethan Frome, Edith Wharton strategically crafts a story that highlights the contrast between two opposing archetypal images, winter and darkness versus summer and light, in order to draw forth a comparison between the effect that both Zeena, Ethan’s wife, and Mattie, Ethan’s love interest, have on Ethan. Zeena’s stark personality and depressive aura causes her to exemplify the desolate qualities of winter, dragging Ethan into a life classified by lonely days and even lonelier nights. On the other hand, Mattie stands on the opposite side of the spectrum as seen in her warm personality that seemingly melts away the cold layer of isolation cast upon him by Zeena. This constant switching from liveliness to a lack of it characterizes Ethan as somewhat of a…

I am currently reading a novel called Break. The novel focuses on health rather than the relationship between a male and female. The story it tells in the beginning is about a boy named Jonah, who is on a mission to break every single bone in his body believing that by breaking his bones, they will grow stronger than they were originally. The author of the novel, Hannah Moskowitz, demonstrates that the main character, Jonah, is careless because he says that "It's been about six months since I haven't had something in a cast" (Moskowitz 20). Here the author is letting the reader know that it wasn't Jonah's first time breaking a bone.…

In the novel Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, the pivotal moment in the psychological development of Holden Caulfield is watching Phoebe on the carousel, because it reveals the author’s message that growing up is a necessity. Throughout the majority of the novel, Holden searched for answers about the adult world as well as constantly trying to prevent children from growing up. In the beginning, he was distraught over the question, “Do you happen to know where they go in the wintertime?”…

He expresses the impact of this feeling in his decision to run away from, what he describes as, a neglectful home. In making him feel so “[unwanted]”, his parents, the very people meant to protect him, lead him to question his self-worth. Relationships, changes and appearances can be caused by multiple events and situations dealing with human beings. They can then alter from time to time off what another person has said or what they have done to affect them in their lives. The novel “6” written by Karen Tayleur and the picture book “Piggy Book” by Anthony Browne both go to show the relationships, appearances and how individuals change in their own perception. The novel and picture book not only shows us the issues and problems that people go through but goes on to identify what a person can become and how their relationship has changed once some of these issues and problems arise. Throughout the novel and picture book composers used a variety of language and narrative techniques…
