I attended the talk with Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The talk I found to be very enjoyable as it was informational and not boring. I enjoyed listening to her stories about her grandmother. What really hit home to me is the work she does with afterschool programs. Community college in Tennessee is currently tuition free and saves students $3,800 in annual tuition costs as mentioned in the PBS. In the first year that Tennessee offered the tuition free college 57,000 high school seniors signed up for the programs that include counseling and mentors (PBS). Obama’s tuition free community college plan would increase the amount of students that currently attend college. Michelle Obama, however, gave a powerful and effective commencement speech at Bowie State University for the class of 2013. Mrs. Obama discussed the educational issues affecting African Americans. The First Lady compelled me to analyze her powerful speech in which she used the appeals of pathos and ethos to tell the students to take action and motivate their communities to value education.…

“Education means emancipation,” according to Frederick Douglass, a writer, abolitionist and a leader to many. In order to inspire those who are lost and without hope of continuing their education, they must be uplifted to illuminate their path with knowledge and excellence. The same determination has been inscribed to many parents of this country and around the world, so they can guide their own children to a better future. Their sacrifices are great ones, especially if their children are first generation college students. For many, education is not only a direction to achieve success, but a form of gratitude to those who have sacrificed many things.…

Greetings, Class of 2023. Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…
