I would like to apply for the position of Student Board Member with the New York State Council on Leadership & Student Activities. I am actively involved within both my school and my community and would love to experience the gains that being a Student Board Member offers.
In November of 2012, I attended my first NYSCLSA conference in Buffalo, New York. I was only eleven at the time, a bit shy, but eager to learn and soak in everything this conference had to offer. Now, four years later there is irrefutable evidence that these conferences changed the course of my life. I am more outgoing, confident, and driven then I ever would’ve dreamed possible at eleven years old. That, first and foremost, is my reason for running for the position of a District 10 representative. I want to help plan these conferences so that the next generation of high schoolers walk away feeling as changed as I did four years ago. Moreover, this is a position I have coveted since I was in seventh grade, and I’ve watched the previous District 10 representatives lead, both in and out of the conference centers. A goal I have in mind is bettering myself as a person and a leader. In the same way, I aim to positively affect my community and state by being apart of NYSCLSA and aiding our state charity. We are all inherently imperfect beings and I am certainly no exception. I need to improve on asking for help when I need it and learning to delegate a bit more rather than trying to take on all the responsibilities myself.
