Many children and adults spend less time preparing food and more time eating processed food or fast food (Ng, Popkin, and Smith, 2013). If families and individuals learned how to prepare food, then they are more likely to use the skill. My mother taught me how to prepare my lunches before the week started. This has helped me eat healthy and save money by not eating fast food during college. Creating nutrition and cooking classes would also align with Health People 2020’s goals because they are targeting teaching the community healthy behaviors and habits, along with improving the behaviors in all groups of the…

It's crucial for good health and longevity to instill in your children sound eating habits from an early age” ( http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/keywords/good_health.html) that quote shows that parents can not only encourage their children to be healthy, they can also help them be healthy by having healthy foods at the house, encourage them to do outdoor activities, and not let them sit around all day and not go outdoors or do something to help themselves. If adults help and encourage children to become healthy, it is much easier for the child to become…

Growing up, I have always wanted to dedicate myself to doing something special in life. I was born in a village in Mexico where public health and education were very limited. I recall, one day, accompanying my mother to a ladies house where there was a sick child. My mother was one of the women in the village who would take care of the sick; she learned everything she knew from my grandmother. When we got there, I saw my mother prepare some medicine and giving it to the ill child.…

Growing up I knew about vitamin E, C, A, D, however, I did not know that there are thousands of vitamins and minerals. I felt overwhelmed after reading this chapter because there is so much to look out for and looking at my diet analysis report I never really considered vitamins, because I just assumed that I am consuming them from my fruits and veggies which I am lacking. According to Colleen and Smith, “Although the vitamins are essential nutrients, the amount of vitamins we need to prevent deficiency is small” (2016, p. 275). Thus, I think a lot of people do not think much about the vitamin content of their foods. Yet, vitamins are also important because they assist in digestion, absorption and metabolism (Aschidamini, 2017).…

From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…

A proper nutritional plan is absolutely a must for a person who wants to maximize his/her potentials. If we adapt a plant-based diet, we can expect the followings: more strength, more endurance, accelerated recovery from trainings (or from injuries), much better bowel movement, less body odour, better sleeps and greater peace of mind. Firstly, let’s talk about proper hydration. While we are working out, we breathe much faster and much more as well as we’re sweating like on a hot day.…
