From the perspective of a college student who has a low-income financial background, I have come to conclusion that failure to meet nutritional needs is only the beginning of the issue. As Cady greatly interprets, “Food insecurity is a symptom of a larger social illness, poverty, which also needs to be addressed” (“Starving For Knowledge 30). The reason nutrition is such an important issue that needs to be prioritized is because it affects not only a student’s health state, but also their learning and performance in education. Colleges need to be aware of what arising issue is occurring in the college environment and decide which one needs to be addressed. The concept of having proper food security may seem easily attainable, but overall many colleges fail to accomplish the fundamental needs of their students. Colleges need to reflect and devise solutions to not only food security, but what current issues reside within their students because without an adequate foundation how can students possibly succeed in
