Eventually as I realized my physical ineptitude, I made the decision to start going to the gym in order to build my self-esteem and feel well physically. When I hit the gym for the first time practically ever, it was a tough experience for my self-esteem, as I saw other people that were stacked on their arms. Rather than giving up

I set a plan for myself to work twice a week: once on upper body, another on the lower body because achieving a goal requires planning as well as patience.

I instead made friends out of those who had similar goals to me.
In fact, one of my closest friends came from my experience at the gym, someone who worked to achieve his goals in school sports, someone who wanted to get off of the bench of the football team and working his way up like myself. You have trained, dieted, and sacrificed for weeks on end and now stand waiting for 5-6 other people to “judge” you and tell you just where you rank next to all these other lovely competitors. You are the only one that can choose to go to the gym every day, eat the diet, spend the money, sacrifice the social life and sometimes friends and family, just for that one day to sparkle and shine on that stage. But, I also think that this is really a team sport in which you can gain so much from being on a team that…

When I first started Crossfit, everything seemed foreign. Going to the gym left me feeling as if I had entered an entirely different dominion--one in which men and women became beasts, knowing only how grunt loudly while lifting heavy weights at incredible speeds. I started off frightened by the prospect of being isolated in such an unfamiliar setting, but as time progressed, my sense of detachment slowly dissipated. Outgoing as I am, I sought out ways to strike conversation with the “locals.” The first topic I found a mutual interest in was Star Wars; who knew such jock-like people could be such geeks like me?…

The girls, self-assured and wearing perfectly-fitted leotards, were built for gymnastics: long, lean, and athletic. To pull themselves up and over the well-worn, padded bar would be easy for them.…

One of the hardest parts about trying to accomplish this goals is my peers. I get told almost everyday that “I will never be able to make it to professional baseball” or “You won’t ever be good enough”. For some people this would discourage them, however I like to use it as motivation. It fuels me to know that one day when I can finally say I’ve made it, that all those people who said I would never make it, were proven wrong.…

Growing up, I became adept at running away from people, problems and my fears. When I was younger, I was the victim of bullying being a shy, awkward and overweight child. Not wanting to be a burden to the adults in my life, I dealt with these problems alone, choosing to run instead. At the time, I had no idea that I would be subjecting myself to years of failure, all because I chose to let fear paralyze me. As of 2017, my mornings are fairly routine. I get up at about 5 a.m. so that I have time to eat, and drink any supplements I need to before heading to the gym and meet my pageant director. I find that getting up at this time to work out has some benefits. One of them is that I feel the pressure to actually get up and be productive, because I know someone is there waiting for me. Another is that I have someone to accompany me to all the machines in the area of the gym that I hate entering.. also known as the upper body machines.…

In the locker room are Dan and Jason. I say hello and continue on to my locker. More people come in and everyone starts talking about how bad their day was. It's almost a daily contest to see who can have bragging rights for having the worst day, perhaps they want sympathy or maybe they just like to complain a lot.
