FOOD SELECTION AND EVALUATION:

The selection of food is made, considering several factors, such as:
1) Sensory criteria
2) Nutritional criteria
3) Cultural criteria
4) Religious criteria
5) Psychological and social criteria
6) Budgetary criteria

Food is selected on the basic all the above mentioned criteria but sensory and nutritional criteria hold primary importance in this aspect.
After analyzing the sensory attributes of food, people mostly consider and evaluate food’s nutritional value before consumption.
Since, every individual’s nutritional recommendation varies; likewise, the mode of selection of food for every individual also differs.
A diseased person’s concerns while selecting his meal, would be different

But we shall only talk about the dietary guide indicators of the United States, since, they are considered as a basic universal criteria in our region.

Dietary Guidelines:
The dietary guidelines are some really basic overview of the key points to be considered while planning meal incorporation. It includes:
i. Aim for a healthy body weight ii. Be physically active each day iii. Let the pyramid guide your food choices. iv. Choose a wide variety of grains each day, especially whole grains.
v. Chose a variety of fruits and vegetables daily vi. Keep food safe to eat. vii. Choose a diet that is low in saturated fat, cholesterol and moderate in total fat. viii. Choose beverages and drinks that limit your intake of sugars. ix. Choose and prepare foods with less salt.
x. Drink alcoholic drinks in moderation.
Food Guide Pyramid:

The caloric needs of an active person would be much greater than an inactive person; he must require incorporate more protein for muscle building and more complex carbohydrates to meet their energy needs. Similarly, nutrient rich foods must be incorporated in greater amounts in much more physically active person.

Health status:
The nutritional needs of an individual depending on the health status would also differ. For instance, a person suffering from cardiovascular disease, hypertension needs to cut down the amount of total fat consumption, saturated fat, cholesterol and salt in their diet and they need to incorporate more and more whole grains, fruits, vegetables, fish, lean meat and fat free milk. Hence their choices over food would be different.
Too many high-fat foods add excess calories to your diet. This can lead to weight gain and obesity, or increase your risk for certain issues. Heart disease, diabetes, some cancers, and osteoarthritis have all been linked to diets high in fat. If you consume high amounts of saturated and trans fats, you are more likely to develop high cholesterol and coronary heart disease. Hence, they need to be reduced from our diet as far as
