Reflection On College Nutrition

Throughout the semester, I learned the most from the College Nutrition 101 seminar. In this seminar, there was discussion about calories, food portioning, and ways on how to eat a healthy diet. It also talked about how eating healthfully at college may seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. Dr. Kristen Bentson helps college students discover new ways to stay healthy, active, and meet your personal goals while hugging classes and life. In particular, I learned a lot on eating a balanced diet, looking at food labels, and portioning food. Nutrition is very important for students. It helps them function properly and perform well in the classroom. Eating a balanced diet requires individuals to eat dairy, fruit, vegetables, grains, proteins, and fats into their diets every day.The following food group’s daily serving sizes are dairy products: 3 glasses of milk, fruit: 2-3 servings, grains: 6 servings, proteins:pound per body weight, and fat-73 grams. These following serving sizes will allow an individual to portion their food intake, maintain weight, and live a healthier lifestyle …show more content…
It taught how to manage our time, study habits/skills, managing stress, eating healthy, staying active, social media, voting, DNA, managing finances, exploring our identity as females, and the importance of having an education at a women’s college. Not only did these seminars and College Life allowed us to excel in the classroom, but they also taught us about our future and life. Being a college student is much more than studying and classes, it’s also about having a social life, knowing what’s going on in our country (media), extracurricular activity, and most importantly, spending time with family/friends. Making sure that you find a balance between all of these aspects in life, is crucial to living a good life of happiness and
