Nutcracker: Music Analysis

Decent Essays
This piece that really stood out to me was “The snow.” The snow stood out to me because of their bizarre moves and tempo of the music. As seeing the nutcracker as someone who never been given the opportunity to watch my ballet production, I somewhat enjoy the production. It was very confusing cause i didn't know what the nutcracker storyline was about. Though the production Act, instrumental background help set the mood of the performance. In this Act of the snow was part one, it had mice and soldiers fighting and having the little girl in this campy as she was dressed in a beautiful pink dress. She almost looks scared and confused as the soldiers and mice are having a battle with each other, and towards the end she comes down the capity …show more content…
In this act the performer had big dresses like the renaissance era and as for the man had big white wigs. As the background it set the mood of this relieving scene as they saw the princess again. This performances was had very upbeat mood to the act. To compare the two acts of the nutcracker was they both had fast tempo background instrumental music that set the tone of the production of “the snow and the land of the sugar plum fairy.” Both of the performances had the girls on pointe shoe which I thought was super fascinating to see. The differences is that one had a renaissance era theme and the snow had a alice and wonderful land feel to it and also their costume and makeup. My thoughts on the whole performance, I can see how people may enjoy watching this and I felt to see this as much as something I have to watch then enjoying the production. It might be because of how long the performance was, sitting for two hours is not my cup of tea. My favorite part of the dance was seeing the dancers in pointe shoes and least favorite how long it was. I would love to show ballet again because it's such a beautiful

All I can say is, the story had somewhat of a quicker pace and sometimes harder to follow and small details could easily be missed, and the lighting was a tiny bit distracting when it flashed across the stage quickly. The use of sound effects was used to signify different things that caught the attention of the viewers and really added a special touch to the play. The play showcased beautiful and stunning singing which made the play more authentic, combined with the elaborate dances numbers truly made the show breathtaking and…

The two clips I chose to compare and contrast were an NYC jazz and contemporary company’s performance of “Steam Heat” choreographed by Lisa Donmall-Reeve and Lindsey’s Stirling’s performance of a Les Miserables medley. Both clips exhibited a high degree of musicality and grabbed my attention almost immediately. They incorporated lighting and costuming with an incredible mastery to enrich the performance. I highly enjoyed the music that accompanied both dances and thought that the choreography worked well with the music. While both works of art have incredibly interesting and complex choreographic elements there are important dissimilarities as well as points of comparison.…

I didn’t really enjoy “Pore Jude is Daid” not solely because of the fight scene but also due to the predictability of what will happen next. The audience seemed to agree as people moved around putting on their coats and talking amongst themselves during the performance. However, during “Dream Ballet” this did not occur. The audience sat in silence admiring the work and appeared to be engaged with what was occurring in the scene. Overall, It seemed as if this play was definitely a classic due to the fact I have seen many renditions of similar storylines previously in movies such as, High School Musical 2 or television shows such as, Zoe Hart, Wade, and George Tucker in the Hart of…

There was nothing spectacular about the choreography. All the acting or dancing was the same to mimic the acting and dancing in the movie. Of course some actions were different because they did not have the same set design and props but pretty much everything seemed to be a very truthful adaptation of the musical. All of the actors were very similar in basically wearing the same exact costumes as the actors in the musical where wearing, which made it extremely easy to distinguish who was who in the musical. The call backs and vulgar remarks that started at the beginning of the musical continued throughout the whole show.…

“Classical Fantasy” choreographed by Jerry Opdenaker, restaged and danced by Ciera Fielding, was a beautifully done piece because of it’s nod to classical ballet. The reference to classical ballet was due to both the musical choice of a composed piece lacking lyrics, and purely instrumental, as well as her outfit that consisted of a tutu, her ballet shoes with the boxed toe to allow her to go fully on point, and lastly due to her perfection of the aplomb. In this piece Ms. Fielding used indirect space by taking command of the entire floor as she pirouetted from each space to transition into the next move. While her body was very upright, and she often spun on toe, her sense of weight was light weight. It was almost like she was floating gracefully across the stage, which created a fluid effect to her sudden sense of time.…

Some things that could have been better about the piece was really committing to the movement along with the facial expressions. I felt that some people in the dancers were not very confident in the movement that they were doing. Along with the dancing some of them did not commit to the facials. For example if they were to be portraying that they were lost without God they just had a blank look on their face rather than a lost look. Then when they finally found the right path some of them just had an awkward smile on rather than a pleasant uplifting…

It basically let me know whether it was dark or happy themed.…
