The debate for nurture vs. nature goes as far back as 350 b.c, between philosophers Aristotle, and Plato both trying to identify the driving force between human behavior. Although the term wasn't coined until 1869 by, Francis Galton. Plato believing that knowledge was present at birth, and that environment did not teach anything new. Aristotle theorized that humans are born with a clean slate, and everything about their behavior comes from their experiences. Both opinions are easily disproved in today's world but they lay the groundwork for what is still a ongoing discussion.

I know that I'm tall because both of my parents we're tall, I know that I have brown eyes and dark hair because, both of them also had such. When it comes to my nature and the genes I was given there's some that I can't explain. I was the first and only High School graduate in my family, ever. In the nurture argument, I'm almost the opposite of what my environment set out for me to be. In my family drug addiction is rampant, with that comes a high rate of incarceration. I grew up knowing I didn't want to be like anyone I was raised around and that strengthen my self concept and made me who I am. Though I made it out, I have/had two sister, I was the oldest with only a 2 and a half years between me and my youngest sister. They both became a product of our environment one in prison by 19, and my baby sister whom died of a drug overdose by 18. For me I'm not sure where I fit in among the argument.
With both Nature vs. Nurture arguments you can see either side. You can even make an argument in favor, or in disagreement to the other. With both though it's like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich each do the job on their own but together it is what makes it a whole.
