Nurture: Birth Order

Birth Order.
I think that birth order has played a role on the person who I am today. To fully understand it’s effects on me, you have to comprehend my situation. In my family on my father’s side I am the youngest of two older sisters. On my mothers I am the middle of a younger sister and an older sister. I think that I posses traits of both the middle child and the younger child. A stereotypical trait (coming from birth order video) that a middle child posses would be being a real people pleaser. I find that I can make friends quite easily and that I’m a likeable person. I also think that I have a mild rebellious side. An excellent example of this would be my out-spoken personality, rebelling at home and eating in classes that I’m

I find my parents being a cross-breed of authoritative and authoritarian parents due to their careers in the police force. I think that they’re like this because of the video about “substance abuse boy” and “apple girl” where all parenting styles were seen. To better explain my parents set a fair share of rules and decide which ones they would like to explain. Anyways, the mix of parenting style has lead me to be a strong willed, opinionated individual. I find that I question rules often and disagree with ones I see unfair or bizarre.

My sarcasm is directly linked to my sense of humor. I think that my sarcasm has originated from my father. I think “sarcastic genes” have been passed on from my father to myself. I find that both my father and I tend to mock others as well as each other: it’s almost our way to communicate.
Nurture
Home Environment
At my home I think that I have a very supportive family. Whenever faced with dilemmas in my life I almost always talk to my parents about it. To add, they almost always have a fix or empathy for my situation. I feel as if I can go to any member of my entire family (even siblings) and get help if needed. With that said, I have great relationship with each member of my family and I think that has lead to me being a caring and empathetic person. Without being so lucky to have my home environment I think that I may not have empathy so integrated into my personality.

Birth Order "The one thing you can bet your paycheck on is that the firstborn and second born in any given family are going to be different," (Voo 1). Doctor Leman, a psychologist that has been studying birth order since 1967 has noted this throughout his years of research. Whether first born, middle child, or the youngest in a family, there are going to be certain personality traits that are commonly found in a person depending on the order of their birth. For an example, usually it can be quite difficult to find a comedian that is a first born child (Cowley 17) because usually the youngest is the more of the out going person and not as much of a conscientious and structured person.…

In case of an emergency which can be anytime, I have to run to my family first because they are the most important part of my life. My wife doesn’t go anywhere without me, I always have to take her places. This is a big barrier because if she needs or we need something for home, the only time I can go is after work which is the time I have school. I also have my family side, I have three brothers and both my parents are here. At some point I would have to make time for them too.…

The Birth Order Every family is unique, not one person is the same, and everybody has different personalities. In the article “The Achiever, the Peacemaker, and the Life of the Party: How Birth Order Affects Personality” by Dr. Gail Gross, she explains these scenarios about the birth order and how you may relate to them. Living with my aunts and being the youngest makes me relate to the last scenarios. But later on when my mom had my brother I became the oldest and, I matured, then I started to relate to the first scenario more. Living with so many girls (five), plus my grandma, I have learned so many things, bad and good.…

    Nature-Nurture Debate

Whilst the nature-nurture debate may seem out dated and revisited, it shows that there is a shared assumption and belief that there are inherent differences between men and women showing that zombie ideas will ever remain supporting the status quo. More importantly all arguments show that men are always the more dominant gender type. All theories suggest that we are assigned gender roles based on our biological sex, regardless of whether it is through socialisation, genetic determination or a combination of both. Interestingly, however, the fa'afafine call the debate into question again offering a perfect example of how nature and nurture cannot be separated, as they will always remain mutually exclusive. I would further argue, however, that…

Description of the Theory After reading the “The Power of Birth Order” article, I’ve learned that there is an importance in the order at which we are born. A group of Norwegian researchers found that firstborns are generally smarter than the other siblings who are born after. Later born siblings tend to be shorter and weigh less than the earlier-born child. First-born children may find themselves in higher paying professions than younger siblings. A second born child is likely to be an artist or comedian because of their ability to make everyone laugh by being funny or outrageous.…

Understanding birth-order could potentially help you to understand things about you and those around you. Research has been done that has concluded birth-order has an affect on one’s personality. Birth-order can’t explain everything about the behavior of an individual because of outside factors such as family member behavior, environment, and education, but it can tell you quite a bit. The classifications can be simplified into four categories; the first born, the middle child, the youngest, and the only child(which is me).…

Carson Petrea Psychology Term Paper Professor Fleet TR 1:40-3:35 Can the order by which a person is born really affect their personality? This question has been apart of the psychological community since the start. The research of Alfred Adler in the early 20th century began birth order theories across the community. Although Adler’s theories are thought by some to be almost as skeptical as Freud’s radical theories, Adler started the argument that scientists still debate today.…

For my analysis paper, I have chosen to write about the long debated of the physiological topic of nature vs. nurture. In this physiological topic, I will be discussing whether human behavior is greatly influenced by biological factors or environmental factors. The belief that behavior is influenced by natural factors is the fact that nature is what we think of as pre-wiring and influence of genetic inheritance. The belief that behavior is influenced by nurturing is the fact that it is generally the influence of external factors after conception the product of exposure, experience and learning on an individual (Mcleod, 2007). This topic affects many people all over the United States by people changing their behaviors from good to bad or bad…

Many different personalities can occur in birth order but they all depend on how the firstborn behaves. It can help predict a child’s future success and achievement in both the workplace and school. The birth order of a child’s parents can directly affect how the child develops due to different parenting styles. Also, birth order has variables and special cases that can cause a disruption to the normal birth order rules, but these disruptions are explainable and do make sense once they are understood.…

There have been different types of studies that have a relation with the birth order but I am going to try and narrow it down to personality. I think it’s important and helpful to know if there is a relationship between birth order and personality. There were two main psychologists that have studied this topic, Sigmund Freud (being the oldest child) and Alfred Adler (being the middle child). (Damien, Roberts, 2015).…

As a child, having rules to follow wasn’t unheard of with my family. There was always a way to behavior with friends/family, at school, at home and out in the street. Often I found myself getting into trouble because I didn 't listen and also the fact that I always found some kind of way to slipping out of having to doing something that I knew I was supposed to do. But out of all the people in my family my mom was the strictest. When expectations set high, not meaning them meant my siblings and I typical had a week long cleaning punishments along with handing over all toys, games, and light up sneakers; about three times a week this happened to me.…
