I really enjoyed the added responsibility and am gratefully for the opportunities to practice my skills this semester. Finally, #5 Personal Learning Objective: by the end of semester I will demonstrate effective patient advocacy by communicating the patients wishes and decisions regarding their treatment options to the physician. I used advocacy multiple times during these shifts to express both the patients desires and needs regarding the care to multiple members of the healthcare team. The activity was part of the NOD Continuity Binder –an effort by Ms. Smith and myself to improve the efficiency of the nursing supervisors at the facility. During todays practicum I grasped the importance of remaining flexible. Hospital administrators and even governing agencies can change regulations or expectations suddenly. As nurse managers we must be willing to adapt to change and to do so swiftly so that our units stay up to date with mandates. Ms. Smith’s flexibility and willingness to adapt were exemplary of the kind of nurse administrator I wish to become.…

Dr. and fellow Colleagues: For myself it has been a long road, but I can honestly said that over these past ten weeks I start to realized what does a Nurse Practitioner responsibility will be when I take over my own patient load. I gave thank you to my preceptor in this class since he spends many hours explaining what my role will be in near future. I feel scare, but I had the same feeling when I finish my first nursing education as Register Nurse. I honestly believe that I met the objectives for this class and look forward to passing my boards.…

Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

I've learned plenty throughout the past eight weeks. Looking back, the nursing process and cultural competence were the two concepts that I took the most away from. Learning the nursing process has taught me the importance of providing patient-centered care. Since then I have began to apply the steps of the nursing process while working as a nursing assistant and it has changed the quality of the care that I provide. I plan to bring what I've learned about the role and responsibilities of a nurse to my future clinical rotations.…

After twenty years of working as a nurse in both hospital and outpatient organizations, I accepted a position as an admission nurse with a national hospice provider. Almost immediately, I noticed a tremendous sense of unity among the staff and a team spirit that I had never experienced before. The communication skills between the different staff members were superior to any that I had ever witnessed. The entire team from the receptionist to the Medical Director and everyone in between encouraged and supported each other. The motto among the staff was, “am I doing all I can to help others.”…

Reflection About Classroom Teaching Experience Being an educator is a challenge and a new learning experience each time. As an educator, I am entrusted with the responsibility of shaping the way students think and feel in the classroom. I have always wanted to be an educator and share my experiences with the new generation of nurses. When I was assigned to work with professor Lynette Rayman to do my classroom teaching experience, I was thrilled because the topic I chose was chronic kidney disease which also happens to be my area of expertise. I had to incorporate my previous learning experiences to make my presentation lively.…

I have demonstrated ability in providing medical education, teaching, supervision, training and support to junior doctors and medical students throughout my career. Examples include: • As a medical student, I gained valuable teaching and supervising skills through a unit ‘Doctors as teachers’. This unit enhanced my understanding of adult learning which was invaluable when creating presentations for various departments and different audiences as a junior doctor. I have completed a number of case presentations which are outlined in my curriculum vitae but one particular example was during my emergency rotation. My case presentation, in my final rotation as an intern, in Rockingham Emergency discussed the difficulty in assessing elderly patients which also explored valuable…
