I chose to enter into the field of nursing for numerous reasons. I went into my undergraduate study at The College at Brockport SUNY as an Exercise Science major, with plans to help those in improving their quality of life. My goal was to ultimately be in a setting where those around me require proper support and kindheartedness. My program consisted of learning both the anatomical side of exercise, as well as the personal side. I learned throughout the program that in order to be involved in the medical field, a person must be able to relate to people in need, and truly go above and beyond to assist them. As my program continued I realized not only do I want to continue this mission in caring for others, but I want to do so in a more hands on way. For my Exercise Science internship I chose to go out of my comfort zone and complete my internship abroad in Dublin, Ireland in a cardiac rehabilitation research study. In this study we worked with 10 men that have all suffered from a major cardiac incident and were currently participating in an exercise program. This program included cardiovascular and resistance training exercises that helped maintain or improve their overall health and fitness. Outside of just the exercise program, I realized how important this was to all of the participants and the strong bonds they have formed over the years with both the trainers and one another.
