Nursing School Admission Essay Sample

For many nurses it may take years to find the specialty in which they fall in love with and want to spend their career in. However, for me it just rather found me. After nursing school, I had my first child and decided to stay at home with him for about a year. Since, I waited and it was during a time in which anyone was lucky to find a job, I ended up in what I thought was just going to be a start to something “better”. Geriatric nursing, was something I never thought that I was going to stay in for over five years, but it just grew on me. Dementia, to me is just interesting in the aspect that there is so much more unknown than known. I have come to have a true appreciation for the senior community and have been a strong advocate for those whose voices can no longer be heard. Advocacy and leadership have been the main reasons behind me wanting to pursue my Master’s. Over the years, I have seen what improvement to care could be made to increase the resident’s quality of life and with much persistence, some things have been implemented. The reason I chose Capella versus many different Master’s programs in my area is the flexibility. It took me awhile to find something that I thought was reachable. It is going to take me a few years but I am in no hurry. I want to enjoy life with my family and be successful in the program. I have decided only to take one class per quarter in order to have a work, school, and life balance. My coworkers have always been a great support system. We encourage rather than discourage education. I have always been a goal-oriented person. I was in the ARMY reserves for over eight years, so I rarely give up on
