Nursing Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was a child, I have been interested in nursing. While other kindergarteners were picking out cute outfits for their dolls or working on their hair, I was taking my dolls temperature and her blood pressure. I turned my room into a hospital, where I had enough space to treat five dolls at a time. For birthdays and Christmas, my wish list began with new “doctor tools” and more patients. From this point on, I knew that I had a career in nursing ahead of me. As I got older, I began to do research on how to prepare for a degree in the medical field. I realized that a background in many different sciences was necessary, so in high school, I jumped right into various classes. I took biology, chemistry, and anatomy. I studied long hard nights in hopes of managing good grades in these classes. My mind was made up and I was not backing down. As I researched different nursing programs I realized that a person must be determined, efficient, and willing each day to learn. A nurse must have patience, understanding, and above all else be willing to put others first. Through my leadership rolls, community services, and friendships I have learned that helping others is a great gift. Working in a hospital would allow me to continue a gift I feel that I have, which is putting others first! My kind spirit would be perfect for the job when times get tough for families and they need someone to lean on I hope I can give them the support they need. I am fully aware that nurses must work long hours and hard shifts but, I am ready for the challenge. I believe that all of my qualities make me perfect for the job. With that being said, two particular instances made me realize my true passion for becoming a nurse. First, when my grandmother was younger, she was diagnosed with diabetes, which means she must monitor her blood sugar hourly or whenever she eats
