My Safety Evaluation

Improved Essays
After answering the questions/evaluation I scored in the 80-89 range. Therefore, the evaluations recommends that I should reexamine some of my habits and make changes to improve my safety. Evaluating my questions, there are a couple areas I could overall improve on. These two areas are auto safety and public transportation. Furthermore, from this evaluation I have learned that I have some improvements to make for my safety. First, I need to be more aware of my surroundings before parking, stopping, and getting into and out of my car. By being more aware and cautious of my surroundings, I can detect a threat and/or predator before putting myself in the situation, thus perhaps preventing myself from being in a dangerous situation.

After doing some researching I have come up with a general plan of action. First, I will need to pull of to the side of the road, and note my location. When noting my location, I should look for exit signs, possible gas stations or restaurants. If I …show more content…
Moreover, all of the questions in this area earned the score of 2 (which equaled to sometimes taking the appropriate safety precautions). I can improve my score by again, being more aware of my surrounding while I am waiting for the bus. I also do a poor job of placing myself, so that I am protected from behind while waiting for public transportation. In addition I should place any possessions under my arm instead of holding it out freely, in order to prevent a person from grabbing it away from me. Finally, while I am riding the bus or any form of public transportation, I need to do a better job of being aware and alert of who and what is going on while riding.
The next part of the portfolio and critical thinking questions asks me of my perception of the safety on my college campus. Personally, I have felt safe, and I have not encountered a threatening or a situation that may put me in danger or at risk. However, my overall perception of the campus and it’s safety is that there are areas it needs to improve on for the students’ safety. This perception is because of the crime alert emails students get. These emails usually have a message about someone being sexually

An Influential Legendary Fatality “You win some, lose some, and wreck some,” said by ‘The Intimidator’ himself almost exactly one year before the day he would be the one to have such an influential crash in NASCAR’s biggest race on the final lap, through the final turn directly behind his two teammates; one of which even being his very own son who would go on to claim second place. Announcer Darrell Waltrip was seen crying as he watched his brother Michael take first place at Daytona for the first time ever, breaking his 462 consecutive race dry spell, and with his teammates Dale junior, and senior behind him. However, little did Darrell, and all other spectators at the event know, Earnhardt would be pronounced dead later on that evening after…

Over the last two months that I’ve been at Syracuse University, The Department of Public Safety (DPS) has played a major role in keeping me informed about a lot of suspicious incidents that have taken place. I remember, once an alert was sent out stating that some lady who claimed to be a pregnant nurse was approaching students and asking them for money. I briefly read about the incident, until the next morning I found out that it actually happened with one of my classmates in my WRT 105 class. Hearing about her experience was hilarious, yet terrifying at the same time and honestly, I don 't know what I’d do if I were in her place. The Department of Public Safety is one of the most influential and important departments of the University.…

The statistics on what happens to those convicted of a sex based crime on a college campus is embarrassing to say the least. Until we do a better job of deterring and preventing those from committing sex based crimes and equally as important do a better job of protecting victims, then our attention, time, and commitment is still needed. This issue of campus safety may be eclipsing other issues, but my argument is it must be a priority until college campuses can be safe for all students, staff and faculty and visitors. Our attention cannot be diverted from safety until it is safe, and then and only then can we begin to meet the other very real needs of equal pay access and…

Where did we go wrong with the safety of our students at school? Are we prepared enough if something tragic happens in our classrooms or on our campuses? According to Goldstein he says, “that there needs to be a culture on campus that allows students and professors to speak up when they suspect something might be amiss with a fellow student” (2009, pg. 247).
