Nursing Research: Influence On Nursing Practice And Public Policy

In 2006, there were 20 programs offering Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP). In 2010, there were 153 DNP programs being offered and an additional 106 programs in the planning stages (AACN, 2011). The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) survey found significant growth in research-focused doctoral programs, an increase in 124 programs from pervious year (AACN, 2011). As more people seek research-based degrees and more programs are available, I project nursing research will increase in the next 10 years.

Nursing research will have tremendous influence on nursing practice and public policy. Nurses or APRNs are faced with barriers in the healthcare system; one way to over such barriers is from research. Conducting research relevant
