Nevertheless, the literature is ambiguous and inconsistency illustration in order to factors that affect the development of students’ reflective thinking competency. This study, therefore, will explore factors influencing reflective thinking competency and evaluates a level of reflective thinking competency in undergraduate nursing students regarding students’ perspective. By the result of this study, educators will able to organize reflective thinking lessons effectively by promoting positive factors and diminishing negative factors that affect the reflective thinking competency development. These challenges may lead to negative impacts on students’ learning experiences, professional practice competency, career development, quality of nursing care, and health status (Jamshidi et al., 2016; Killam & Carter, 2010; Rafiee et al., 2014; Wawire et al., 2014). The literature proposes different strategies; such as, cooperative learning, problem-based learning, simulations, self-learning modules, and discussion that can be integrated into the nursing education to help nursing student develop certain competencies that help them overcome these challenges (DeYoung, 2015). Example of these crucial competencies include communication, decision-making, critical thinking, and clinical nursing practice skills (Jamshidi et al., 2016; Wawire et al., 2014).
