As a guideline of nursing instruction, many reflection models are used. This study, however, uses a model to facilitate reflective thinking in clinical nursing education as a conceptual framework (Chabeli & Muller, 2004). According to Chabeli and Muller (2004), this model comprises with three main parts are a learner as a recipient of the reflective learning process, a facilitator who creates the environment conducive for learning, and the reflective thinking process. To utilize reflective thinking in nursing instruction, educators should realize the factors that have a negative and positive influences achievement of reflective thinking development, such as proper teaching strategies, assessment and evaluation methods, interpersonal facilitation …show more content…
Nevertheless, the literature is ambiguous and inconsistency illustration in order to factors that affect the development of students’ reflective thinking competency. This study, therefore, will explore factors influencing reflective thinking competency and evaluates a level of reflective thinking competency in undergraduate nursing students regarding students’ perspective. By the result of this study, educators will able to organize reflective thinking lessons effectively by promoting positive factors and diminishing negative factors that affect the reflective thinking competency development. These challenges may lead to negative impacts on students’ learning experiences, professional practice competency, career development, quality of nursing care, and health status (Jamshidi et al., 2016; Killam & Carter, 2010; Rafiee et al., 2014; Wawire et al., 2014). The literature proposes different strategies; such as, cooperative learning, problem-based learning, simulations, self-learning modules, and discussion that can be integrated into the nursing education to help nursing student develop certain competencies that help them overcome these challenges (DeYoung, 2015). Example of these crucial competencies include communication, decision-making, critical thinking, and clinical nursing practice skills (Jamshidi et al., 2016; Wawire et al., 2014).
