Nursing Profession Course Analysis

Professional Concepts course had an eye opening effect on my views of the nursing profession. Many topics were addressed on the online discussion board. Nursing employment opportunities is one area that attracted my attention to choose this career change. The variety of settings makes this profession such a diverse occupation. Some locations include hospitals, clinics, physicians’ offices, home healthcare, schools, and the military. There are over 100 specialties in the nursing profession. I know it may take a few assignments to find what my true passion is, but having this choice is significant. Many occupations do not have this flexibility. It started with this class and will continue throughout my career. Certain features are common in all professions. Nurses have particular traits that are distinctive to the profession. These characteristics are being knowledgeable in the area of practice and demonstrating certain personal qualities, behaviors and actions. The clinical experience I received this semester has conveyed plentiful knowledge in the fields of maternity and pediatrics. As I progress through this program, each semester will increase and develop my baseline knowledge. Continuing education can be acquired through journal readings, attending workshops, seminars and conferences. Being open to new knowledge and new ideas is crucial to professional growth. I plan to learn and listen more carefully at the work of my colleagues, other professionals and patients.
Certain personal qualities such as caring, empathy, patience and responsible for others are characteristics of a professional nurse. Showing compassion and respect for the patient are extremely important attributes when caring for a person. I know I want to help people and make a difference in their lives. My current career has fined tuned my personal qualities which so happen, coincide with
