Transition to Nursing Practice. Challenges for New Graduate

Do you think Brandy’s experience is typical of most new nurses? There is no doubt that Brandy’s experience is typical for most new nurses and perfectly fits to the shock or rejections phase. The lack of experience of the new graduates nurses make them to face a lot of challenges and stressing situations. Their classes usually did not prepare them to deal with the new situations and they have no choice than to figure out how to deal with it. Applying the learned nursing theory at school, the best description for this situation that I found in the literature is: “Knowledge deficit related to recently graduating as a nurse as evidenced by lack of sleep, poor appetite, and anxiety.” This could go on to become a very involved nursing care plan (Kersey, 2012).
What could Brandy have done to ensure that her first day would go smoothly? Planning could be done better by her. She arrived late on her first day of job and she could perfectly avoid this situation with the parking pass. Second, forgetting the pen and the use of a little paper to make annotations was also preventable. It caused the loss of important information and loss of time reading her patient’s time. This organization can provide her leadership opportunities and develop this skills, meet with nurses working in other services and leaders in nursing not expected to know in person. Also, several nurses associations publishes magazines or information on job opportunities and legislative issues that affect nursing practice.
