Nursing Goals Essay

When I was little, my dad used to tell me to be a nurse. At the time, I did not know what a nurse does. As I grew older, I came to understand what a nurse is and what a nurse does. I was told to take this path as it would bring us a good life because nurses can earn a considerable amount of money annually. Hence, when I graduated high school in 2009, I did go to a university in the Philippines that offered a nursing program. At first, I thought that it was not for me because it was all about science, and I thought it was going to be difficult. Day by day, as I went through each course I needed to take, I have become fascinated with all the science involved in this profession. Thus, I decided to continue my education in nursing, for I believe that being able to save a life is the most rewarding feeling that a person could ever experience in her life. As I was looking for answers to how I am going to set my goals, I asked myself, “What is my purpose?” “What is that purpose that makes me strive more to reach my goals?” Those questions made me go back to the reason why I wanted to take a nursing program and that is to save lives. I want to be able to provide care to the people who are in need of medical attention. I want to be able to treat them and make them feel better with the help of my skills and knowledge. Another question followed, “How am I going to live that purpose?” Finally, it struck me. Each goal that I want to accomplish is all related to my purpose. As for my personal goal, I want to be able to help my family financially and to be able to take care of them when they are not well. That leads me to my educational goal which is to complete a degree on Associate of Science in Nursing. When I finish this degree, this will lead me to my career goal to practice as a nurse which will serve the purpose to save
