However, after graduation from high school I still didn’t feel ready to take responsibility for pursuing career in medical field. I decided to choose a degree in psychology instead. During the college years my main areas of interest were medical psychology and behavioral medicine. The most exciting of them was an opportunity to get education. I decided to obtain an education in medical field and started to research different career opportunities. I learned what a high demand for nurses exists now in the US and that need for nurses will increase due to America’s aging population and high need in primary care and chronic care management.
In order to familiarize myself with healthcare in this country I started to volunteer at Craig Hospital and later was offered a position as rehab technician. Here I was able to test my desire to become a nurse and develop all qualities which are necessary for work in medical field: patience, empathy and emotional strength.
I understand that nursing education is an exciting but challenging path which require advanced self-organization and time management skills. During years of studying in Ukraine and in the US I was able to obtain exceptionally high grades and successfully combine school with job. I can use my knowledge of different cultures and languages in the medical field, where one may meet patients from all over the world. Understanding of their psychology, types of thinking and mentality, knowing challenges, which they face as immigrants, could be really helpful while establishing trust between patient and care
