Nursing Personal Statement

The nursing profession has always fascinated me. I felt deeply connected with this profession since I have two aunts who are nurses as well as my own mother. Being surrounded by people who were so firmly rooted in the medical profession, I felt compelled to seek out the reality of this field by volunteering at a nursing home. While I did not truly engage in the day-to-day activity of being a nurse, I was able to interact with the residents. Usually, my interactions with the patients consisted of talking to them as they ate or as we traveled throughout the building. These small daily interactions lifted their spirits and as they became happy, I felt the same joy in myself. It was a truly special experience to do something so simple yet to have such a large impact in someone’s life. These daily interactions did not only give me a special purpose that made me want to continually volunteer at Bethesda Dilworth but it also gave me a bond with its …show more content…

I have always been intellectually curious about technology even going so far as joining technology club and taking a STEM class to actively seek and use my knowledge to build something. In the same way in forensic nursing, I could use the newly developed technology to investigate the certain cases and in informatics nursing I could assist in creating new software. In both cases, I would be able to work on complex problems that can help people. That is the true key in my desire in nursing and it is simply the ability to help people with direct face-to-face contact. I felt that nursing could give me a warmhearted sense of purpose that is looking in other professions. Also, nurses are in constant contact with numerous and unique patients, doctors, and other nurses which allow them to continually learn from others. This is why I am seeking a baccalaureate degree in

For a second I am suspended in a state of sensory overload. I am cold but sweating through the first pair of scrubs I have ever donned. For five years, I went to the Boys and Girls Club during the summer, and once a week we would visit the retirement homes to play bingo and conversate with the elderly residents. Unlike many of the other kids, I was more fascinated with watching the interaction between the nurses and their patients rather than playing games. I watched as the nurses would walk over to patients, adjust their blankets, and pillows as they showed so much compassion. I remember that day so vividly watching the nurses care for others so generously as if it was first nature and I looked at them with the utmost respect. Since that day, I have aspired to be a nurse and to care for others because, at the end of the day, that could be me, or a loved one, you never know…
