Being a teenager means making decisions about your life that you don’t yet feel ready for. Choosing Nursing was one of these decisions and I made it after weeks of consideration.
I decided on Nursing in late high school which was good because it allowed me to choose A-level subjects that would complement the course. Biology is a necessity as it is the study of living organisms. It has given me an understanding of the basic principles of life. Eg: As a nurse I will have to take patient's blood glucose but the number would be meaningless if I didn’t understand the purpose of glucose and how it contributes to physical changes in the body. Psychology is an enlightening subject as I get to study effects of the brain in physical/psychological disorders

I helped to run the junior club for girls which meant supporting vulnerable women through issues such as health, alcohol, abuse, etc. This allowed me to add sensitivity to professionalism and taught me values of helping others regardless of creed, colour or background. These values are necessary in nursing due to sensitive matters and encounters with various types of people.
During my spare time in the summer before A2, I also engaged myself in a personal project on dementia as it relates to my chosen course and also my work placement. I completed over 5000 words of research, sorting them into 8 different categories relevant to the disorder. This project gave me a taste of what independent study at university will be like and I have now also gained skills such as planning, research and critical thinking.
Through my pre-med group, I have also been lucky enough to have met healthcare professionals who have inspired me further in my course, and have made me realise that without ambition the workload will be impossible to complete. I fully possess this ambition and believe that I could make it as a nurse. I am aware that Nursing is a demanding lifestyle which comes with a lot of responsibility. However I believe that the rewards of seeing a healthy patient after a period of care will motivate me further into a successful
