The following September I decided to complete a FETAC Level 5 Pre-Nursing course as it was my understanding it would be a positive help in preparation for a nursing degree. The course included several modules on the Theory and Practise of Nursing in addition to Manual Handling and Occupation First Aid certificates. During the course, I completed twelve weeks of work experience as a health care assistant in the University Hospital of Limerick. This placement was challenging as the spectrum of care was so broad, but I never once left there without feeling like I had accomplished something. My daily duties included assisting patients with their transfers by following their individual transfer and mobility plan and aiding patients at mealtimes by following their eating, drinking and swallowing plans. Additionally, I monitored and recorded the patient's vital signs and communicated my observations to the healthcare team. Overall, I learned about the benefits of collaborating as part of a team and adopting a holistic person centred approach towards patient care in order to make a substantial difference in their care and
