We need to, as nurses, make sure to talk with the family and see how they are doing. Nurses must be able to recognize what constitutes an unhealthy work environment in order to correct the issues present and be able to provide quality care. For example, if a nurse is situated in an environment not conducive to maintaining professionalism, the nurse must tactfully address the issues. If a peer is not communicating effectively, the nurse could discuss improving communication techniques with them. If a new nurse requests assistance, the experienced nurses could lend their helping hand and use the situation as a teaching opportunity. Not only does this strengthen the professional community, but also, these methods ensure that patients are receiving the best and most positive care while hospitalized.…

Registered nurses can work in more than one place, actually they work in all kinds of places. They could work in many different places such as hospitals, physicians office, home health care services, and correctional facilities, schools, or even serve in the military. In all of those places registered nurses need to be focused, active, and willing to help their patients. Registered nurses need to deliver a “patient-focused care”. A “patient-focus care” means exactly as it says, nurses focus as much as they can on a patient so that they can give them the best care and the proper care that is needed.…

Continuous quality improvement needs to continue utilizing the patients’ opinion on services rendered because you may think everything is going well because the job is getting done properly and timely, but continuous quality improvement also includes that 20% of how the staff treats a patient. In addition, the patient may have valid ideas on how to improve service because they are not close to the situation on a personal level. Sometimes, if you are too close to the situation you cannot see a viable solution to the issue. Additionally, all patients should be considered a partner in their care because the medical staff is not with them when they walk out the door.…

Personal Philosophy of Nursing A nurse’s philosophy involves contemplations of that person’s beliefs, principles, and values within themselves and their practice. I am choosing nursing not only as my program of study, but my profession as well. I have always had a strong desire and passion to help those in need. For example, when I was four years old I saved a two-year-old child that had fallen in the pool and was drowning; no one at the pool realized this child had fallen in, except me. It was natural instinct for me, save this child!…

Thank you for your post Christina, you have brought forward an interesting topic about family centered care. I found your post to be informative as this is a unique situation that most nurses do not inquire about or explore (Aeromedical Transportation). Advocating for patients and familys is an important nursing role. It is important to not just look at the patient as the whole focus but to look at the patient and their family members to have a complete understanding of who they are as a whole unit. I agree with your statement that decisions can be based on financial reasons as I also encounter this issues working in a rural acute care hospital.…

In the late 1800s the nursing profession began with a legacy known as Florence Nightingale. Personal Definition of Nursing Everything has a different meaning to each person depending on their experiences with the subject. For some it can trigger bad memories of an event that had a disastrous result, while others’ faces may light up at the word. For myself, the word nursing brings up memories of being cared for by my grandmother when I hurt my leg. These memories are what make up my own definition of nursing, which is that it is the unadulterated caring and support given to a person, no matter their situation or their relationship.…

As the theory is evolving the nursing discipline is also changing or upgrading. Nursing theories are able to predict the future in nursing practice, more so, caring is difficult to measure, but theories and principles can analyze and explain the level of care that nurses can give. The complexity of nursing practice is also simplified by appreciating or relating to the theories where nursing situations are explained (Smith & Parker, 2015). Most importantly, theories act as one of the most important basis for decision…
